Silly me- I use kitchen shears to cut grapes, and the cake breaker looks like something to pick up fish or use with spaghetti . . . in some way or other.

Finished shopping, I think. I have avoided the worst of the rush. I have been in consultation with my daughter about staging the holiday dinner - knowing what you need to start early, what can cool, what needs to come out and be served immediately, and if she has enough cooking things to do all of this. She didn't want to disclose her plans, and said she thought they had plenty of cooking devices. Then I got a text inquiring about a convection oven that I bought in case one of the kids would need it (found for $5 at a garage sale, it hadn't been used much at all). I'll take that up with me. After 33 years of cooking Thanksgiving dinners (the first I remember cooking was in 1979 for friends at our apartment in New York City) I can't just turn it off. It's funny - I've thought of myself as still trying to get the hang of it the way my mother did it, and time has flown, and this many years have passed and now my daughter is starting to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Wow.
