From the Preston Drive-in south of Louisville Kentucky, you could see a big rock outcropping on a ridge nearby. This was called Devil's Backbone, and it would catch the last rays of sun going down before the movie started. The name caught my interest at the age of 12, a connotation that bad things might happen up there, or had happened.
Anyway, this song is about a love affair gone wrong.
