Thread Name: Is there an Essex Wassail?
Subject: RE: Is there an Essex Wassail?
Well that was a wrong answer. Molly is associated Plough Monday first Monday after Epiphany and ploughing furrows in gardens of gentle folk if they did not give food or money to "disguised" farm workers. A way of getting some income in an entertaining terrorist kind of way through the lean winter months.

Still would be interesting to check Morris Ring archive (some of which is at Essex Record Office) to see if there is anything approximating wassail tradition specific to Essex and East Anglia.
