Well Jack, with respect, you are looking at entirely the wrong product. It's not fair to blame Kindle because it doesent do a job it wasn't designed to do. You can buy a Kindle for about eighty quid and for what it does for the money it is remarkable value. If you want to use something for a musiic stand you may be better with an iPad as I find that places where I play the lighting is not great and you would need a supplementary light with a Kindle (or sheet music for that matter). Backlighting is probably better for the use you have in mind.
