Metis are a people of First Nations (American Indian) and European mixture, recognized in Canada as one of the "Aboriginal" peoples.
Some 450,000 in Canada claim Metis origins. Some make a distinction between French Metis and Anglo Metis (countryborn; most descended from Scottish fathers) but traditions for most are similar.

Hawaiians brought over on contract as voyageurs, carpenters, etc., by Hudson's Bay Company did not mix and most went back, although a small group remained in British Columbia and have descendants there.
