Okay. I don't understand this because a big corporation is involved. Well, maybe I do: they may have started to get it through their corporate heads that prevention is better than hospitalization -- and cheaper for them. But here's what's happened.
I picked up the mail today and there was what appeared to be junk mail from Humana, the company that manages our Medicare benefits and stuff like that. "Consumers Reports" gave Humana a straight-across-the-board "open circle" rating recently. Just so you know.
Anyway, since I went into the local hospital on December 14 and stayed overnight, Humana's "Well Dine" program is sending me ten (10) nutritious frozen meals to help prevent my re-hospitalization due to poor nutrition (like Pat would permit that!).
This is at no extra cost to me. On January 4 they're to be delivered.
Okay. If this is so important, why aren't all health insurance plans doing it? We also don't pay for immunizations, mammograms, colonoscopies, or other preventive measures. I also have a free membership in the "Silver Sneakers" program, which allows me to unlimited visits to two local fitness centers and a slew of others such places around the country.
Well, I'll take ten free meals. I ain't about to turn down food.
