There has been an outcry about the leniency of the sentences that the judge passed; however it seems he was restricted by a law passed in parliament and so unable to give a longer one.
Not a peep about the latter from the hang 'em and flog 'em brigade.
However if a judge passes a lenient sentence when his hands aren't tied, we get a tirade from this brigade (who often know little about the case) about unelected, lefty, soft-on-crime judges.
