My dad use to sing this song. We have a recording of him singing it. The version he sang went like this:
Ships go sailing cross the sea so far away from shore Now they don't wear skirts and girdles so you can't call them a Horse and bridle saddle is what I've got to sell. Now If you don't want to buy them then you can go to Helen is my girlfriends name, she drives a new Ford truck She ain't much good at driving but you should see her Fumble fumble fumble she's fumbling with my heart Everytime I eat navy beans I always have to Forty dollars I have to spend, there's three more I pass If you don't like this game of dice then you can kiss my Asked my girlfriend her name to write down on the list Everytime I drink cheap 3/2 I always have to Peter Murphy had a dog a dirty old dog was he He loaned it to the neighbor just to keep it company And all around the house at night that dirty old dog would grunt He'd run his nose up the lady's clothes and try to smell there Come away you naughty dog you make my pressure rise. There's never been a man in this whole wide world who'd lay between her but I'd like to thank you for the glass of beer I'll drink the damn thing down You'd better get up old man it's time for another round!
