Thread Name: My curse fall on you Sweeney
Subject: My curse fall on you Sweeney
I've always been a bit of a snapper-up of unconsidered trifles of idiosyncratic phraseology which I then store away in the attics of my mind. So when I came across the phrase, "My curse fall on you Sweeney" in Seamus Heaney's translation of Sweeney Astray, it immediately seemed familiar. After a bit or rooting around in the back of my brain I realised that the self-same phrase occurs in The Rocks of Bawn (although not, I believe, in the original). Is there any significance to this or is it just purely coincidental? Anyone got any thoughts?
