Writing from the country! where, thanks to our good neighbour (and Bell), I now have internet. SO, having driven into the city with R this am, I turned around and came back because it is a beautiful day and so much nicer here with the big east facing windows looking into the trees. Lots of solar gain and good insulation makes this place very easy to heat and to keep warm.

I spent most of last week researching the effects of wind turbines: human health, environment, bats and birds, migrating birds, hydrogeology.... On the weekend, R and I talked with our neighbour - we are in cahoots -- visited area people, postered about the council meeting on Monday night ...

Went to the city Monday am and came back for the mtng, with a notebook of info and two page hand out. What a meeting! People were really ticked! Many were there because they had seen the posters or been called by friends who had, or visited by us. "We knew nothing..." " How come the council can send out a letter telling us how we must place our recycling bins but cannot tell us about a proposed wind farm!" Two hours of comments in French and/or English.

The only person in the audience (out of close to 40) who seemed to be in favour (said not a word!) was the one who owns a large part of the ecologically sensitive, and one of 20 in the world, sandstone pavement barren - an amazing ecological feature. R spoke about it and almost wept as he talked. As a geologist, he addressed the hydrogeology of the area and possible effect on the aquifer of 4-5 wind turbines being constructed there. He also noted the interesting - you would not allow 16 houses to be built on this land, zoned agriculture but are considering wind turbines?

At least 3 of these monsters are shown on the plan as being less than a km of us, two of them in the east where I watch the sun rise.

We had tea and snacks with our neighbour after the meeting to debrief and agreed to write letters to editor - his in French, mine in English. He had alerted the local paper and there was a reporter. YAY!

We went back to city this morning to R could get to work. I made up the bed there (washed sheets on Friday) and was back about noon. Have done the email thing, and written to a friend and had a hot bath. Will go back about 6:30. A lovely day.

Yesterday's push to get info ready - I ate junk. Today, broke two week choc fast - big time- and I feel blick! Back to veggie's and good stuff. Had broccoli and black bean sauce for lunch with sprinkle of grated cheese. Good start and yummie.

My brain is full of more info than I ever wanted to know!

We also went to an art show on Sunday - and picked up an old baby walker, I think it is, for the raccoon friends. They LOVE kids toys! They have the mentality of 2-3 year old human kids.

Speaking of libraries: I have to visit at least every two weeks, go through at least 4 novels and whatever other interesting books I can find in English. What would I do without?
