I am 62, and my mother and Grandmother both sang it thus:

Go to sleep, my baby. Close those big blue eyes.
Angels watching over you, peeking from the corners of the skies.
Great big moon is shing, stars beign to peep;
And it's time for our Dereenie to go to sleep.
