This thread needs a bit of correction or clarification. First I must explain that it was a another Sandy wo made the original request.
   This is the original written by L.C.Walsh as a poem similar but not exact to Sorcha's post.

MY CAPE BRETON HOME
    (Lillian Crewe Walsh)

'Round the home of my childhood my memory doth cling,
Though others great stories of many lands sing;
They tell of the grandeur of Italy and Rome,
But they say not a word of my Cape Breton home.

Whenever I wander on land or on sea,
The home of my childhood remembered shall be.
God's blessing rest on it; wherever I roam,
I shall never forget it; my Cape Breton home.

I love every inch of its wild, rugged shore,
And listen with joy to the old ocean's roar,
I gaze with delight on the white sparkling foam
That sweeps 'round the cliffs of my Cape Breton home.

In a small, quiet village that stands by the sea,
I played with my comrades, lighthearted and free;
Some sleep in the churchyard, while others have roamed
And left far behind them their Cape Breton home.

Thy lakes and thy rivers and pastures so green,
And great wooded hillsides I see in my dreams;
With friends of my childhood in fancy I roam
Amid the dear scenes of my Cape Breton home.

Let others tell tales of the great golden west
The home of my childhood is the land I love best;
Though there's many fair countries 'neath heaven's bright dome,
There's none to surpass thee, my Cape Breton home.

She wrote many other poems including one called The Lady Of The Loom. Charlie MacKinnon combined these two poems and set them to music with the spoken parts posted by Guest being from the second poem.
