No answer from the roofer, but the cabinet has arrived. The base is less of a box than the old one, so it doesn't accommodate the stash of unread magazines so well, but it fits under the table, which the old one didn't.

I've removed the metal bits from the old carcass, and am going off to the dump with it, and stuff from the corner of the garage I tidied before the guy arrived, where I found the straight-edge, the Stanley knife and the flexible curve. So I can get going on the spare room floor.

Also, my neighbour has given me some chitted Desiree seed potatoes, which I am going to plant in the base drawer of the old cabinet as a raised bed, after drilling some drainage holes. Unless I decide to use it as the hay box!
