This thought doesn't really apply here but it is still instructive: My mother had gone to the same doctor for years. She was 80 when she started having vivid hallucinations- although some of them were very funny she - and we - were disturbed about it.

We talked her into going to see a different doctor and after the workup he immediately took her off four of the seven meds she was taking, all prescribed by her longtime doctor...
