LH, you've discovered what women, over a certain age (in my experience) have discovered through their lives. Many women live alone because they like their own company. They had a relationship, they have children, but now, they prefer to enjoy life at home in a solitary manner. Partners are available when desired, but aren't desirable for a permanent relationship.

I have a couple of friends who would like to explore a deeper relationship, but, I figure, I raised my children. A guy around the house is like having another teenager here. If they're your own children, you can tolerate a lot more than if they're not related to you. I realize this is horribly unfair to a lot of very funny, smart, civilized men out there. If I meet one of those, then we'll see.

And this is the "do it yourself" generation, if there ever was one. Nothing is left unattended to. So to speak.
