Thread Name: Lyr Req: Ring Dang Doo
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ring Dang Doo
Over two decades ago I found a book in the Philadelphia Public Library called "Bawdy Songs and Backroom Ballads". It had a version of the song that went like this:

The Ring Dang Doo
Now what is that?
It's round and dark lie a bowler hat.
It's good for me, and good for you,
And it is called the Ring Dang Doo.

There was a girl,
A shy young maid;
Of men and boys she was sore afraid.
She woke one morning with a feeling new -
There was a stranger in her Ring Dang Doo!

Her angry father before her stood,
Said, "You have lost your maidenhood!
So pack your bag, and your portmanteau,
And get the hell out with your Ring Dang Doo!"

She went to town and became a whore,
And hung this sign outside her door:
"A dollar each, or three for two
To have a crack at the Ring Dang Doo".

The army came, and the army went,
The price dropped down to fifteen cents.
They got the clap, and the lues, too,
And the seven-year itch from the Ring Dang Doo.
