From my grampa who said that this was a very old tune that was played in southern church revivals just after the civil war. I have no references to give, just his recollection. Thus, he said that old Aunt Jemima and one legged joe (from the confed) danced together in church! That is all I know from his accounts... I bet this song is older than any of the recorded versions though.
