I traveled to Greece in the Spring of 2011, and saw Delphi, the most sacred of spots in ancient times. Here lies the sacred spring of Castalia, and the Temples of Apollo and Athena. It was customary for those seeking fame, fortune, or any knowledge of what the future held, to call upon the Oracle, a priestess who sat within the temple above a chasm in the rocks, inhaling the vapors that came from within the Earth which induced the gift of prophecy.
The prophecies were rarely straight forward. An ancient king was told that if he were to invade an adjoining country he would witness the fall of a great kingdom, which turned out to be his own.
The Greeks were believers in predestination, and felt that each man's life was a tapestry being woven by the three spirits they called The Fates. At any time, they might cut the strands of thread from which this life was woven.
These legends and the eerie beauty of Delphi gave inspiration for this admittedly strange song...
