Culture comes in waves and vogueish spasms - it's the Folk Law.

I was talking to a dapper chap o' a certain age recently at a service station who inquired as to why I had medieval chalk drawings on my fiddle case, when I told him I was off to play at a Folk Festival he looked aghast. They still have folk festivals? he said. I thought that was a 70s thing? I had to advise him to sit down before imparting the news that there were still Folk Clubs as well. Seems he'd been a casual folkie at Keele University in the early 70s and hadn't looked back since graduation in 1974. I don't suppose the Watersons are still going? he said.

Talking of vogueish spasms - I hear a lot about Folk Families these days, supposing they mean those Folky Parents who managed to nurture the Folk Gene in their offspring in their non-rebellious offspring thus establishing their authentic pure-blood micro-dynasties which probably began when said parents met as enthusiastic members of Keele University Folk Club circa 1973.
