I got the song from Pete Bellamy in the early 70s as a return for giving him a bed for the night after a gig.   He sang it with a guitar accompaniment - in open D tuning I think - and without the repeat refrain and the 'O' at the end of the last line.   It's a song that has pushed to the back of the repertoire for quite a few years, and I thought it was about time I revived it.   I have the words written down somewhere but thought that I'd just see what there was on the net - hence finding this thread and making this post on it.   I liked Peter and always sang the song with a dedication to him, as I suspect I shall again!
