Thread Name: Lyr Req: Martin Simpson 'The Bell' Olympic song?
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Martin Simpson 'The Bell' Olympic song?
I'll put you out of your misery.
The song was written for "The Ballads Of The Games" - a programme on BBC Radio similar to the original radio ballads written and broadcast in the 1950s and 60s by Ewan Maccoll, Peggy Seeger and Charles Parker. This programme mixed active sound clips of people talking about the Olympics with songs written by Martin, Jez Lowe, Chris Wood and more.
The song is performed by June Tabor and Martin and has not been on a CD - it was recorded specially for the programme. It won't feature in any of the Olympic events and I don't think the programme will be archived for playing outside the UK.
It sounds ok. Not either June or Martin's best work, but certainly not a disappointment either.
