I'm debating with myself what to do with the star patterns on the wardrobe and the shelf over the bed area. (It's a folding bed, so won't always be down, giving me space for things that can get moved elsewhere when someone stays.)
I'm thinking of putting actual constellations over the bed and on the side of the wardrobe facing the bed. But the other idea is to warp the regular wallpaper pattern as if entering a wormhole or something. (Also, but this is probably silly, painting the back of the interior of the wardrobe with snow covered fir trees! Or Danny Boyle's Glastonbury.)
The downstairs loo, by the front door, has, for some reason, a frieze of leopards around the top of the walls. This has reminded me of a bathroom at a study centre near Pitlochry which has been painted with a Rousseau like jungle with a tiger, and I'm toying with that as an idea for that room. Or, alternatively, a Kentish woodland with silver birch and bluebells. I read a book as a child in which a little girl goes to stay with a mysterious godmother, and finds her bedroom open up into a woodland at night. (I think this was Marigold in Godmother's House, by Joyce Lankester Brisley). And now I've gone literary, I'm wondering whether I should print stars on the dark blue carpet in the spare room, like the Great Grandmother's room in the Princess and the Goblin. Somebody stop me, please.
