The arrangement isn't to my taste, but I'm not sure that they've "messed up" the rhythm. I've never seen the music or lyrics for the original song, and for me the definitive version is the Coppers', and some of the phrasing in this version seems to echo theirs. Taking that as the benchmark, Nic Jones altered the rhythm more than this with his (wonderful) version.

If they've put it into say reggae or tango rhythm then I can see why you might complain, but I can't see myself that they've done anything particularly disrespectful with this arrangement, although it's not my cup of tea.
