Subject: RE: BS: Does your fridge light go out when...
Well, yes and no. You see, it either does or it doesn't. So when you close the door (assuming that the light is on when it's open and everything is working correctly and the fridge is plugged in, etc.) the status of the light is indeterminate.

Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life
At last,I've found you.
Ah! At last I know the secret of it all.
For the longing, seeking, striving, waiting, yearning,
The burning hopes,
The joy and idle tears that fall.

You see, it's kind of like putting a cat in a box with a chunk of cat-killing radioactive stuff and then closing the lid. You don't know if the cat is alive or dead.

There are so many things like this. Will your tractor start? Does you chewing lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight? Can you ever know? And if you did know, how would you know that you know?

This question goes straight to the heart of existence, for how can you know that you exist? And if you don't exist, how do you know and what do you have to compare it to?

Send the answers, with a box top and twenty-five US cents to cover postage and handling, to J-P. Sartre, c/o Cafe Rien, Montemartre, Paris.
