Subject: RE: BS: $1 Bill...
There used to be wallets that had a plastic or metal assembly that would hold pennies, nickels, dimes, & quarters in separate slots. That made it easy to get rid of small change by using it in small transactions. When I left my commune in 1981 & started handling money again, I tried to find such a wallet, but they had disappeared, tho one leather-goods proprietor told me about one customer a week came in & asked for one. My guess is that sometime in the '70s the fashion industry had taken over the wallet business & decreed that sensible people are not worth pleasing. I have tried to make a usable substitute, but so far have failed.

One conceivable escape from the nuisance of pennies & nickels as well as $1 bills might be to multiply the value of existing coins by 10, say by punching a special-shaped hole in them whenever they passed thru a bank. Then the penny would become a dime, the nickel a half dollar, and so on. That would bring their purchasing power close to what it was when I was little.
