Parades have always turned me off, even on Veterans' Day here in the US. There are better ways to celebrate one's (identity? patriotism? religious affiliation? war dead? what, exactly?) than to march around making a lot of noise and annoying the people who live on the route.

The sensible thing is, obviously, to stop marching.
