On the other hand, it does seem to me that the TV debates entrench the sound-bite approach of the unthinking to politics and that perhaps the candidates could submit opposed academic dissertations on aspects of policy to panels of professors who had not decided how to vote, and the marked and commented versions of those dissertations then made available on the internet.
