Not,of course, that the memory, be it ne'er so immortal, is spotless. There was an episode in his life, assisting the King of Naples to maintain his position at the turn of 18-19C, for which I believe his name is reviled in Naples to this day. The notorious affaire with Lady Hamilton was ongoing at the time. Details of this part of his biography, lightly fictionalised but convincingly represented, can be found in Barry Unsworth's distinguished novel Losing Nelson, 1999.
