Bobert you have to define "musician". I've studied music formally and have been a musician/activist for many years. Guitar and singing are my principal instruments.
I also play jazz.

Is a musician someone who plays music regardless of academic training?

I think so.

Sometimes just as musical as someone who has made a formal study of music.

Are you trying to screen out those who may not be musicians but for political reasons feel it necessary to post on this site?
