The weekend was a great success, with visitors from far and wide and also great local support.
Wed 17th OCT  brilliant  'warm up' session at Bernard Harringtons Bar Glengarriff, on . Nice to see old friends and new friends there, Thomasin and Mike from wales made a long trip to be there, great to see them.
Friday 19th Oct the start of the festival proper, Lots of songs and tunes with an inclusive session hosted by free spirit, lots of familiar faces plus visiting singers/musicians from as far afield as Yorkshire and beyond!
Sat 20th Oct  saw the arrival of 'THE DUTCHMEN' (and Women) you have to see them to believe them, Irish songs, Sea Songs, Theatre You name it they do it! an amazing group of talented vocalists and musicians, who will be back in Glengarriff for the 2013 St Patricks weekend festival. Also Young talent at it's best with performances from Aaron 'banjo' Buckley and Chloe Twomey. These 2 young people will go far with their music and song, Great to see them at the Festival. Our furthest travelers then entertained us, Rob and Ollie Willis from Forbes Australia, did a brilliant set, with songs and tales from the outback, accordion tunes and ukulele backing! The Wild Colonial Boy (and Girl) are back in town! Also a great set of songs from our own 'Travelling Pipeline Man' Steve Roche From Kanturk, Original songs and stories, and he is also a superb Bodhran player, as he showed in the later session, dueting with John Buckley (accordion) from Coolea County Cork. There were sessions in both bars, attended by local musicians including  our good friend Dick Miles, who organizes The Fastnet maritime and folk festival, and is an internationally recognized concertina/guitar player and vocalist.
Sunday 21st Oct The young musicians set was a treat as always, with performances from the musical Buckley Family from Kilgarvan, Bodhran Buckley aged 6, Buttons Buckley aged 7 and Aaron 'Banjo Buckley' aged 12. Aaron was also joined by the future super Group 'Super Strings' Jonathan and Norah Cronin.Followed by  Tunes from John Buckley Jer (Jim) Kelleher  Friends John & Jer are accomplished  Button accordion players, with unique styles of their own. From slow airs to  jigs/reels and hornpipes, and also foot tapping waltz tunes.  Cork and Kerry's best!
During the day we were entertained by Marie in her Tiger costume, who painted some amazing faces, with a large outbreak of Tigers! Assisted by well known local artist Brian. Also a magic show by Mysterio the magician, (me! John Corteen ) , some people said there were echoes of the late great Tommy Cooper in the act, a real  tribute.
The festival was 'sung out' by our great friends from Holland, 'the Dutchmen' under the leadership of their musical director Henk Vosse, including a performance from Niza Queen of the dessert, belly dancing as you have never seen it before! Followed by a late 'join in' session to finish the weekend off in style.
Thanks to all who helped to make the weekend so much fun, all performers take part purely for the love of music and craic, no one is paid including the organizers John & Marie Corteen
Thanks also to our host Bernard Harrington, without whom the event could not take place, he provides a welcoming and appreciative venue to musicians and singers, both locally and from around the world. A top place to play music and enjoy the craic.
Looking forward to next year already. The next event we will be hosting there is the FREE SPIRIT St Patrick's weekend festival in the spring, it will be a 4 day extravaganza, with all of the above plus some surprise guests?  Already confirmed are the Dutchmen, so if you missed them this time, be sure to catch them in March.
All the best John & Marie Corteen
