There is nothing grayer than a gray day in central China. The color of the sky is as flat as shirt cardboard. Some music and musicians are very easy to find here-Michael Bolton, John Denver, Britany Spears, The Backstreet Boys.... THis is is good if you like their stuff, which I don't. I have a vendor downtown who has a little stall on the street. She has the usual collection of CHinese popular and classical music, and some really excellent CDs of classical music. I rode the bus down there yesterday to see what I could find. I found, instead, this wonderful CD, Ibrahim Ferrer Buena Vista Social Club. I know tthat Ry Cooder went to Havana, foud these guys and that a film was made, but I haven't seen it. This CD is so lovely. Cuban music is not heard here much, if at all. My wife, daughter and I dancing around our small apartment on this gray November Chinese day,Senor Ferrer is bringing us some carribean soul and and sunshine. Really a fine CD.
