I once upset kate Rusby by telling her "Barnsley lass" jokes I learned from a Circus of Poets.

I don't resent her success, but I wish someone had picked up on me at 17 and pointed me to a way I could make a living for the rest of my life. Billy Bragg got the same treatment. Nice for them, but it minimises their "life experience".

In the same vein as Rosanna's comment, I'll always remember the time when Jo-Ann Kelly said she liked my singing. Now, that's what I call a compliment!
