"Ya don't like it, move. Apparently, a lot of your country(s)men like it."

It is a bit absurd that Brits should receive a lecture from foreigners about how lucky they are to live in a country where the royal family reigns! Many of us are royalists but a great many of us aren't. It doesn't make anyone less patriotic or respectful of their history! In fact much of the history since at least the 17thC had to do with the curbing and diminishing of royal power. (ie think of the Scottish Covenanters; the English Civil War; Cromwell; the Williamite Revolution;arguably the Act of Union itself) Some would like to take that a bit further - or even to do away with them altogether. I suspect most Americans would baulk at the idea that a baby currently in the womb should be promised (barring premature death) the position of Head of State of the US sometime in the future! Why should Brits be castigated for holding those seem feelings?

Anyway what is more to the point is that even many people who are happy enough with the status quo re the monarchy will be less than happy with the blanket media coverage we are in for. I woke up this morning to little world news on our local station other than two women prattling on as to whether William will or won't change nappies!
