Violence or peaceful action, who was right?

Does the USA not now have a black president now verifying the MLK approach, not through Malcolm X approach through violence and guns? (Maybe some white folks dont like this progress, and would have preferred the alternative, where blacks, in a minority, would have been further or marginalized or eliminated)? Unfortunately bothe of these folks died from gunshots.
