I stay seated during the prayer(! they have NO concept of separating church and state at municipal meetings down here). I stand quietly (sometimes) during the pledge of allegiance. No, I see no purpose in the various oaths, but if you had to do it to get the job then you had to minimize the damage as much as possible.
