Subject: BS: Borderline Buggery
No, this isn't about ambivalent sexual antics. It's about the relationship between the above the line(music) and below the line (BS) forum, and the overlap between them, in the light of a song that found itself linked to (not by me) in posts above and below the line.

Here's a link to the song Bugger the Bankers. And here is a link to the amalgamated thread, which was placed above the line.

And what it set me thinking about was the way that lots of times a thread doesn't fit comfortably either above or below the line. There just isn't a firm line between song and discussion about other things for many, in fact I'd suspect most, of us. Song are typically going to touch on topics we wish to discuss, and as often as not a discussion will lead into a song that makes a point better than anything.

My impression is that a lot of people seem to confine themselves to above or below the line, and I think that's a mistake. One way and another they are liable to miss stuff they would value. Songs need exploration of their meaning, and discussions need to be brought to life by songs.

So I'm not saying threads shouldn't be amalgamated, it gets clumsy without that being done. However perhaps the better way at times might be to put a closure on posting to a redundant thread, but with a link to the amalgated one. But at any rate people ought maybe to feel more open to exploring the other half of the Mudcat?
