Since I have not checked on the origins of Babe of Bethlehem, this is strictly an opinion, but still one that comes from a lot of years of experience in dealing with music tradition. Peg, I suspect that your version is the newer one. Babe of Bethlehem has been around in the form in the data base for a lot of years I think the tune may have been around even longer than the words. This is not to say that your version is an inferior one. I like the lyrics you remembered and hope the remainder of that version will be found. Maybe Sandy can come to the rescue.
