The 3-ring binders I use are WHITE, and either 2-1/2 or 3" (I think 3-inch, actually), with the clear sheet on the cover and spine so I can insert a cover and spine label. Bigger works, too, as long as I can slip a sheet in the front. Smaller ones are used for the occasional overflow year or for those puzzles that I need to ferret out the year on.

I lucked out at a couple yard sales over the course of the past few years. I used to get the Econo line ones at OfficeMax for about $4 bucks each. Staples charges $8 and I won't pay it. The Goddess of Yardsales (and Goodwill) smiles on me...
