Thread Name: Lyr Req: Always Argyll (Jamieson, McCrone)
Subject: Lyr Add: ALWAYS ARGYLL (Jamieson, McCrone)
Here's my transcription from 3 versions on Spotify; see the notes at the end.

ALWAYS ARGYLL
Jim Jamieson and Duncan McCrone

1. I've seen the red sunset turn gold on Loch Fyne.
Have I seen this true wonder for the very last time?
The bright lights of Tarbert glow beckoning bright
In the shivering cold of a dark winter's night.
The Kyles in their glory are spread out below.
The high hills of Arran all white-capped with snow.
I'll soon have to think of Australia as home
But the truth will be always Argyll.

CHORUS: Always Argyll, always Argyll,
Long may the memories linger.
I'll soon have to think of Australia as home,
But the truth will be always Argyll.

2. High above Tighnabruaich I look out to sea.
This'll soon be no more than a memory for me,
So I'll shed as few tears as my heart will allow,
And maybe with time, I'll be happy somehow.
The thoughts of my childhood spin round in my mind
As I gaze on the beauty I'm leaving behind.
When they ask where I come from, Australia I'll say,
But the truth will be always Argyll.

[Valerie Dunbar was the first to record this song in 1982, followed by The Clydesiders, of which Duncan McCrone was a member. The above version is exactly what Valerie Dunbar sings on "The Auld Scotch Sangs," except that she omits the first half of verse 2; that comes from the version sung by The Clydesiders on "Scottish Folk Songs of the West." I have also listened to Duncan McCrone's recording on "The Biggest & Best Scottish Album"; it is nearly identical to the above, except that he sings "street lights" instead of "bright lights", "are white-capped" instead of "all white-capped", and he repeats the phrase "always Argyll" at the end of every chorus. I have also corrected the spelling of place-names.]
