No we ['people'] were not, Jack. I don't know your age, but I was 13 at the time, and confidently assert that Hitler's fate was a great mystery. As late as 1953, in my first year at Cambridge, I remember seeing a supporting short film at the Arts Cinema [the old one in Market Passage] which had a surprise ending predicated on the fact that Der Führer might be holed up in a South American hotel room, hopefully plotting a return to power!
