Thread Name: English Tune Manuscripts in ABC
Subject: RE: English Tune Manuscripts in ABC
As you have Crawhall (1877) in there, here are 3 additions:

William, Percival & John Dixon of Ingoe near Stamfordham, dated 1733/8, orig. in Perth Libray, pub. Matt Seattle 1995 as The Master Piper. Jury is out over whether the Dixons were themselves musicians, but Percival was time-served scrivener. Research ongoing and active.

John Smith of Cresswell, Northumberland fl 1840s. Indexed only: orig in possession of NPS. Smith was a stonemason by day and probably a fiddler. He lived on the Cresswell estate, landlords Cresswell-Baker, although himself born in N. Tyne valley

John Straffen MS, 1848, Angerton Northumberland. Another fiddle MS from a family of estate gardeners. Abc in progress: orig in possession of NPS, arrived with the Forster Charlton collection of archives, no history of where its been for 150 years.

Straffen MS has one tune whose only other occurreence is in a Dorset collection (thanks to contact with Tim Laycock for that!)

Last two available to inspect on request: some scans also on file.

Hope this helps
