Well, I wrote to the California state park where Lake Clementine is located, but I kinda think the lake and the song are not related. I found a songbook today that said "Clementine" is a music hall song from the 1880's. could this be true? I always thought of it as an original from the Gold Rush. Maybe not. Anybody know the history of the song?
