Erin, if you have to be travelling down through Yorkshire try Whitby on the coast, small former fishing port given over the tourism for the most part now but still a lovely place to visit. Lots of history going back to 664AD when the date of Easter was decided upon here, Captain Cook learnt his sailing here, Bram Stoker wrote Dracula here.
Lots of little alleyways to wander through and music nearly ever night on the week. My favourite is the Elsinore on a Tuesday night but there are plenty of others.
