I knew I had reached a watershed in my life one day in the late 1980s, when a young man stood up to offer me his seat on the London Underground. I was 'elderly' as above: ie about 57. I took the seat with thanks as I thought it would have been ungracious to refuse. But, oh dear... Still wonder what can have prompted him. My hair was still black, and my face relatively unlined, and I still walked briskly everywhere. None of which criteria is now applicable... So I suppose maybe now I am just a little bit old[ish]? I remember the death of King George V and the Abdication Crisis of Edward VIII & the coronation of George VI, which occurred om my 5th birthday. And WWii is all a very vivid recollection...
