a better question to ask, is how can this be avoided in the future to any black, or white, or purple or any other person right. I can only strongly suggest a federal hand gun carry law. I talked to a cop from Florida that I know. He said the stand your ground stuff occurred because people got mad at the high number of drug related break in's and subsequent homicides. The state then passed that law. The downside to "no good deed goes unpunished" is that they laid a good foundation for murderers to get off. Now stand your ground was not part of this case but it will be again in the future sadly. A federal carry law would be a good step I think. but who knows maybe the feds won't get it right either but maybe they will at least talk to people who know about such things unlike NY before making laws.
