Beardedbruce, there is a Neighborhood Watch in many areas of Seattle, including my neighborhood.

They wear sweatshirts or tee-shirts identifying them as such, they travel in pairs. And they don't go armed. The Seattle Police insist that they don't, and a Neighborhood Watch person carrying any kind of weapon is, ipso facto, in deep doo-doo with the police!

Volunteers for the Neighborhood Watch teams are requested to have some knowledge of unarmed combat (judo, kung-fu, etc.). But--if there is any possible danger of such a confrontation, they are instructed to cell-phone the police, keep watch, and stay away from the suspicious person or persons.

Yes, I know quite a bit about Neighborhood Watch.

By the way, as to Zimmerman's question to Martin of "What are you doing here?", Martin was on his way back to where he was staying with his father, and was less than half a block from the house. The question could more appropriately be asked of Zimmerman, "What are you doing here?"
