My favourite import brand is Gold Tone, enough to have bought a few. But I have very much enjoyed the Vegas I've tried, and a few Deerings also.

Banjo tone may be an acquired taste, at least if one takes all the jokes about the instrument seriously, but as with other instruments, once one is acclimated to the sound, it's easy to hear the differences from one banjo to another.
