As a non-smoker brought up in a smoke-filled household I wish you all the best. Both my mother and my wife's father died of smoking-related illnesses after much suffering. My parents gave up when my father retired but in my mother's case the damage had been done. My father is still alive at 84 (luckily, still pretty fit though prone to coughs and colds) but regrets the wasted money he spent on cigarettes over 5O years. " I could have bought a house" he always says.
My wife smoked a little when I first met her, switched to little cigars but gave up altogether to avoid the regular winter bronchitis she was prone to (it worked)
