We have an HP OfficeJet R80 (does everything) that has been a perfect workhorse for 8-9 years... but it is not a modern USB compatible machine. Had a PC of same age crash, and now doesn't recognize the printer, so we have been using it for just copying. (It does enlarging/reducing in small increments, which my wife needs in her work)

We also have a Canon MP600 that we inherited from a friend who left the country. I put it on my 'downstairs' PC. It seems to be fine, though doesn't get 'much' use and ink is moderately expensive.

So...we recently got a VERY new HP wireless printer that seems to do almost as much as easily as the old HP... and it and the Sony laptop it communicates with seem to 'know' everything it needs...including new drivers, ink level and network connections. It hasn't gotten any HUGE workouts yet, but has printed business cards with no hiccups.
