The scanner seems to pixelate (in the finest detail) with a dots, colours use shared pixels. This results in worse limits to selecting small areas than my 20 year-old parallel port scanner! But then I bought it for CD printing and double sided was a bonus (of sorts) and scanning quality was a negative bonus.
